The Five(ish) Doctors reboot

For the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, here is a video written and directed by Doctor number 5, Peter Davison, who brings along in its adventure Sylvester McCoy (Doctor 7, all excited to have played the Radagast part in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit movies) and Colin Baker (Doctor 6). The 31 minutes short is of course in English. Among the things to know to fully appreciate it: - The few frames of Tom Baker (doctor 4) are from the 20th anniversary episode of Doctor Who (1983). They were themselves archive footage, since Tom Baker at the... [Lire la suite]

The Day of the Doctor: Happy Birthday Doctor Who!

Airing event yesterday on France 4, and simultaneously in some 75 countries around the world: the 50th birthday Doctor Who episode. The current Doctor (Matt Smith) meets two of his past incarnations (David Tennant and John Hurt) whose challenge is none other than the end of the Time War which took place before the rebirth of the series in 2005. It is thus like the end of a cycle, a finally solved temporal loop, which opens a new direction for the series. So Gallifrey, the planet of origin of the Doctor, is eventually... [Lire la suite]

Doctor Who: some missing episodes found!

The BBC had an annoying habit some 50 years ago, that to re-use its tapes, thus deleting hours of programs which she undoubtedly judged worthless. It is by realizing that practice that the actor Terry Jones succeeded in saving at the last minute all the Monty Python Flying Circus episodes at the time, by buying himself the tapes which were going to be destroyed! Doctor Who didn't seem to have that chance, since no less than 106 episodes in black and white of the First and Second Doctor thus... [Lire la suite]

The Day of the Doctor

The only series that I am currently watching, Doctor Who, celebrates its 50th birthday this year, and on this occasion a 75 minutes episode is bringing together at least the last two actors who played the Doctor, Matt Smith and David Tennant, and two of their partners, Jenna-Louise Coleman (who should remain at the sides of the already announced successor of Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, in 2014), and Billie Piper, the first companion of the Doctor at the time of the rebirth of the series in 2005.Also in the cast, thus, John Hurt, as... Doctor 12

Peter Capaldi is the new Doctor in Doctor Who, starting from the Christmas Special episode of 2013. An older Doctor thus than his three predecessors of the modern age, which should bring a new breath to the series, in any case a new prospect. Will he have a surprise appearance in the 50th anniversary episode? Time will tell.  I will regret Matt Smith in the part. In my eyes he had been able to keep the freshness of his interpretation during all his three years of reign, Contrary to David Tennant, whom I had found tired during... [Lire la suite]

The twelfth Doctor to be announced this Sunday!

I follow very few series currently, and even for the one I’m about to write about, I haven’t seen the last season in its entirety! That being said, it’s nonetheless my favorite series currently aired, and this since 2005, date of its rebirth. This is Doctor Who, without a doubt the longest science fiction series in the world, since its first phase lasted from 1963 to 1989 (Doctors 1 to 7), then a single telefilm was aired in 1996 (Doctor 8), before the current iteration since 2005 (Doctors 9 to 12 soon). Doctor Who is an institution... [Lire la suite]
