The Day of the Doctor

The only series that I am currently watching, Doctor Who, celebrates its 50th birthday this year, and on this occasion a 75 minutes episode is bringing together at least the last two actors who played the Doctor, Matt Smith and David Tennant, and two of their partners, Jenna-Louise Coleman (who should remain at the sides of the already announced successor of Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, in 2014), and Billie Piper, the first companion of the Doctor at the time of the rebirth of the series in 2005.

Also in the cast, thus, John Hurt, as revealed in the last season 7 episode, also playing the part of the Doctor. But what Doctor? A Doctor who apparently would have degraded himself to the point of no longer being worth of his own name anymore. Is this a future or past incarnation? If
it’s a past incarnation
,
it would undoubtedly be placed between the only regenerations we didn’t see, as an audience, namely between Paul McGann (hero of a single tv movie and many audio adaptations thereafter) and Christopher Eccleston (the Doctor in 2005). If John Hurt is placed between those two, it means concretely that Eccleston is not the ninth Doctor anymore, but the tenth, David Tennant is the eleventh, Matt Smith is the twelvth, and Peter Capaldi the thirteenth, and normally the last, since in the canon, Time Lords are entitled to only twelve regenerations! There’s no doubt that the obstacle will be circumvented though, as one can’t imagine that the BBC would stop the series after the last Doctor in date.

Appointment is thus taken on November the 23rd to know about this new Doctor and to celebrate with dignity the 50 years of the longest science fiction series of all times!
