New airings of John Carter in France+the movie's team campaigning for John Carter 2?

How do I know that John Carter is aired on French tv? Not by looking at schedules, but when I see the number of visitors on my blog. It draws another time a more important number of visitors today, welcome all. John Carter has indeed begun to air again on the "Ciné+ Frisson" channel on Tuesday the 3rd of June at 8:45pm, and this Sunday June the 8th at 11:00am. As was already the case when the movie aired on Ciné+ Premier at the beginning of May, this airing brings a lot of researches about the eventual sequels. ... [Lire la suite]

Soldier Edgar Rice Burroughs, you're in the army now

When Burroughs writes his Indian tales, all doesn’t come 100% from his imagination and researches. He indeed was in the American cavalry… for ten months!  Burroughs always dreamt of a military career, which was synonymous for him with adventure and romanticism. Shortly after graduating from the Michigan Military Academy, he fails the entrance exam at West Point. Whatever, it wouldn’t prevent him from living his dream, and if possible, in the “worst” post of the United Taste. What did he ask for! In his mind, “the worst” was... [Lire la suite]

Apache Devil, the sequel of The War Chief, by Edgar Rice Burroughs

The sequel of The War Chief takes place three years after the end of the previous novel. Shoz-Dijiji as well as Geronimo and his tribe are now in an indian reservation, and subject to the indignities imposed upon them by the Indian Agent, who starve them. Geronimo decides to risk everything. Although he's willing to live in peace, he leaves the reservation, hoping that the pindah-lickoyees will leave him alone. That was not to be. This time, there are dates given in the novel, and for a godd reason, since it follows... [Lire la suite]

Conan the Destroyer also is 30 years old!

Thirty years already! I have a love-hate relationship with this movie. After the very intense Conan the Barbarian by John Milius, indeed not necessarily 100% faithful to the character but-who-cares-it's-a-blast, Conan the Destroyer goes 180 to become family entertainment. Less violent, less sexy, with the mandatory "funny" sidekick... nothing to write home about at first glance. And yet, the film has nonetheless some charm regardless of its age and flaws. Schwarzenegger never looked as impressive physically,... [Lire la suite]

The War Chief of Edgar Rice Burroughs

This novel, written in 1927, was only translated once in French, in a few issues if the fanzine La Tribune des Amis d’Edgar Rice Burroughs in 2010. On the other hand, its sequel Apache Devil was released in French by the Néo editions in 1986!  This novels features the tale of an American child, Andy McDuff, who will grow up in the very own Apache tribe that slaughtered his parents. Rechristened Shoz-Dijiji (“Black Bear”), and now a pure Apache in heart and soul, to the point where he becomes Geronimo’s son, he will take part in... [Lire la suite]

Dynamite becomes official!

That was the great news yesterday in the small world (albeit in expansion) of the Edgar Rice Burroughs fans. The Dynamite Entertainment Company, which was publishing since 2010 unauthorized versions of John Carter, Dejah Thoris and Tarzan, and which had been sued by ERB inc in 2012, had recently stopped his run. It turns out it was only temporary! ERB inc got back the comics rights of John Carter from Disney and Marvel, and sold them to Dynamite Entertainment, which will soon officially publish “John Carter: Warlord of Mars” (as well... Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 30 years already!

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was released in the United States on 1984, May the 23rd (30 years ago this friday!) and in France on 1984, September the 12th. In the Indiana Jones series, The Temple of Doom holds a special place in my heart. I was 13 years and a half when it was released in France (yeah I was still counting the half-years at 13 years old, so what? :) ), and I had recently discovered the pleasure of sountracks with Return of the Jedi, which my parents had bought me. I had already... [Lire la suite]
