Cinemablend.com: 6 Reasons Disney Needs To Resurrect The John Carter Franchise!

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/6-Reasons-Disney-Needs-Resurrect-John-Carter-Franchise-43550.html

Excellent article which lists the reasons why Disney should ressurect the John Carter franchise!

1) Andrew Stanton and Taylor Kitsch want to make the sequels! It can seem of little importance, but it's not, especially in Andrew Stanton's case of course. He originated everything. He was the one who suggested to Dick Cook, then President of Disney Studios, to get the licence, which Paramount had just let go of. Stanton isn't just a mundane director, he's Number Two at Pixar. He's about to release the sequel to one of Disney/Pixar's greatest hit, and he negociated a live-action movie after Finding Dory. You can add on the list of persons willing to continue Lynn Collins and James Purefoy, of course. And let's remind that the "Take Me Back to Barsoom" Facebook page was originally created by the movie's crew, just after the release.

2) the movie, slowly but steadily has gained a new audience. Those among us who follow the sequel campaign see it every day. The petition keeps on gaining new signatures (12 517 as of today). The site evokes the ratings on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes, but the most impressive ratings come from Amazon. On Amazon.com, John Carter is better rated (4.4 out of 5) than EVERY Marvel movie, except The Avengers and the first Iron Man. The film also has more registered critics than every Marvel movie, except The Avengers and Thor. At my very modest scale, I see on the blog researches on John Carter flourish as soon as the movie is aired, for now only on paying channels.

3) The lessons on the disastrous marketing of John Carter have been learned. The abysmal failure of the John Carter marketing is proven and largely documented. John Carter was released at the time where a new team, unused to market films, was hired. It was a bet of Rich Ross, the then new Disney Studios C.E.O, which completely failed. The marketing manager, M.T. Carney, quit way before the movie was released. John Carter 2 won't suffer from the same problems, the first movie is in the process of forging its own great recognition, on its own merits.

4) Disney can afford it. It goes without saying, but it's better being stated aloud. It's not a question of money for the studio. The site recall that the phenomenal success of The Avengers had also helped a little John Carter in the end. Both movies were paired in America's drive-ins!

5) The sequels seem too tempting to not being made! Burroughs's fans perfectly know that the follwing stories are strong, and if you ask me the suspense at the end of Gods of Mars was probably plagiarized by George Lucas for The Empire Strikes Back. So if the sequels are greenlit, it won't be on the basis of a yet-to-be-written script. In fact, everybody in the upper echelon, including ERB inc, perfectly know what would happen, since Andrew Stanton pitched to them in his initial proposal the entire structure of the three movies.

6) Given A Fair Shake, This Franchise Could Be A Very Lucrative Investment. Let's not be fooled here, if the rights were to be renewed, it will be the main reason if Disney makes up his mind. The studio has made itself a specialty of adapting great literay classics, and here is one perfect for them, one that inspired in some points Lucas and his Star Wars! And if  Disney lets go of the rights, perhaps another studio will take its chances? Of course, the catastrophy scenario would be if Disney renews the rights just to prevent somebody else to take advantage of them. We'll see, in March of 2015.
