Happy New Year 2016! And what to look forward to for #JohnCarter and #Tarzan

First of all, I wish all of you a happy new year 2016! 2015 ended on a high note as far as I'm concerned, by viewing of Star Wars The Force Awakens, a movie that fulfilled all my expectations and hope for the future of Star Wars. http://normantrayfr.canalblog.com/archives/2015/12/28/33126557.html On the John Carter front, the year 2015 ended with two wonderful articles released after the release of Star Wars episode 7, one in French and one iun English, on the official Star Wars website, no less, reminding the influence the saga of... Star Wars: The Force Awakens – SPOILERS INSIDE!

For a long time I wondered if I was going to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I hesitated until the last moment. I was waiting for the first reviews to take a decision. Will go? Won’t go? I dreaded the too enthusiastic first reactions that were drowning the Internet. I still had the bad taste in my mouth from the prequels reviews, which were quite hyperbolic when they had been released (“Attack of the Clones is THE Star Wars you were hoping for!”, “Revenge of the Sith is at last a return to the true Star Wars!”, yeah, riiiight…). I... [Lire la suite]

#JohnCarter officially acknowledged as #StarWars ' ancestor!

THIS is what we should have seen as soon as John Carter's promotion began in 2011! George Lucas was in part inspired by Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom stories, by his own admittance, and in the wake of Star Wars: The Force Awakens' phenomenal success, a wonderful article on StarWars.com acknowledges the links between the two sagas. Some will see in this a Disney attempt to sell more John Carter DVDs and BLU-RAYs, and why the hell not? The movie deserves it aplenty. ... [Lire la suite]

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 30 years already!

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was released in the United States on 1984, May the 23rd (30 years ago this friday!) and in France on 1984, September the 12th. In the Indiana Jones series, The Temple of Doom holds a special place in my heart. I was 13 years and a half when it was released in France (yeah I was still counting the half-years at 13 years old, so what? :) ), and I had recently discovered the pleasure of sountracks with Return of the Jedi, which my parents had bought me. I had already... [Lire la suite]

Spock of Mars!

Found on the internet, the combination of three passions of mine, Star Trek the original series, the first three Star Wars (1977-1983), and the Barsoom novels from Edgar Rice Burroughs. It gives... Spock of Mars! Combination of this Frank Frazetta painting: with this original Star Wars poster, the one with Sexy Leia and Hulk Luke!

Terence Hill and Bud Spencer among the most aired on French tv!

I don't know about you, but I grew up with those two. Every summer we went to Normandy on vacations, and there was a small movie theater who featured mostly "old movies". It's here that I saw for the first time Star Wars and Superman 2, and many Terence Hill and Bud Spencer movies. Full of innocent and huge brawls, of humor never on the vulgar side, those movies were and still are awesome entertainements for me. In June of 2013 was released the list of the most aired movies on French television since 1957, among the first... [Lire la suite]

John Williams confirmed for the next Star Wars!

I learned an excellent news yesterday: John Williams is confirmed as the composer for the next Star Wars! Even if I adore all things Michael Giacchino, the usual collaborator of J.J. Abrams, does, Star Wars wouldn’t have been the same with another composer. Of course it will happen someday, but I hope it will be in a very distant future. It’s through John Williams that I came to film soundtracks, which constitutes 99.99% of my cd library today. I was already a fan of Star Wars (thanks to the figures and comics), and one day I heard... [Lire la suite]

Discovery of Star Wars on paper!

For a while after discovering the action figures, I created my own game universe, completely off base! It was only when my parents bought me the comic adaptations of the first two movies that I realized what Star Wars really was. I devoured the double album until the pages detached themselves. I still have the scrap the album became over the years. I looked at all the movie stills I could find, read all news reports, trying to imagine what it would be to really see the movies. But it was a waste of time and effort, because my parents... [Lire la suite]

And of Course There Was Star Wars!

Or "La Guerre des Etoiles", as it was known in France. It was more "Stars War", which was somewhat prophetic, since the héroes would be opposed to two Death Stars over the three movies. I discovered Star Wars through the toys. I discovered Star Wars through the toys. My first two figurines bought were Luke Skywalker and Yan (Han) Solo. I kept the guy with the gun for myself and gave the doctor to my brother. The doctor? Well yes, he had a telescopic syringe inside his arm and was dressed in... [Lire la suite]
