The first John Carter movie in history could have been written by a French!

The ficklepants.com website has published an astounding article, whose link you will find below, about another little-known try at adaptating A Princess of Mars, and with French authors! In 1973, Peter Brown, former manager of the Beatles, buys the European rights for John Carter, and hires to write the script a French, a Roland Arrabal, author of short stories and plays, among those « Sept Péchés », which impressed Brown. Should we be sorry that this adaptation never saw the light of day?... [Lire la suite]

Synthesis of informations: John Carter 2, is there still hope?

And why not? As its hero, who claims in the face of adversity "I still live!" like a motto, John Carter the movie seems to gain step by step a cult movie status.  - Let's remind that at the time it was released, John Carter had the honor (dubious but real) of being the most pirated movie at this moment! That's right, there's a ranking for that, I was as astonished as you, if you just discvovered it...  - If the American box-office was abysmal, it was not the case in the rest of the world, in particular in two key... ERB COMICS!!

The adaptations of Edgar Rice Burroughs' works besides Tarzan have always been sparse. For John Carter, there are comic strips signed by John Coleman Burroughs (1939 to 1941), three issues drawn by Jesse Marsh adapting in accelerated fashion the first three novels (1952-1953), some issues at DC Comics (1972-1976) which will also see some adaptations of Carson of Venus and Pellucidar, as well as adventures featuring Tarzan's son, Korak, then the first Marvel period (1977-1979), and then... John Carter by Cecil B. De Mille!

First of all Happy New Year 2014 to everybody! A ScaleyScribe made a splendid poster of a dreamy movie: John Carter of Mars, directed by Cecil B. de Mille, with his actors from the Ten Commandements: Charlton Heston (whose real name was John Charles Carter!) as John Carter and Yul Brynner... as Tars Tarkas! And the incomparable Sophia Loren as Dejah Thoris. Special effects by Ray Harryhausen. What a movie it could have been! ... [Lire la suite]

Post on ERB inc Facebook page: an "amazing development" in 2014!

I just learned on this occasion that ERB inc, the company that handles the rights of Edgar Rice Burroughs' works has an official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/?sk=welcome#!/erburroughs?fref=ts). Here is what they posted on December the 11th of 2013:   "We just got word of an amazing development that will be announced at the beginning of the year.....Stay posted for more!"   John Carter fans of course hope that this will be the annoucement on the future of... A Fighting Man of Mars

I finished reading again in the "Cycle de Mars #2" the French translation of A Fighting Man of Mars, quite simply my favorite of the cycle. It's not only for the adventures in themselves (a lot of back-and-forth, abductions and escapes!), but more for the characters. Burroughs seldom wrote about the common people, but more about extraordinary characters, strong and brave to the point of temerity, kings and queens among men, even if they not always bear the titles. The fighting man of Mars is Tan Hadron, a martian warrior among... [Lire la suite]
