Article from 2015 May the 8th: 5 movies that really deserve a sequel

It's been now more than three years since the release of John Carter, and we still have from time to time articles which speak of this movie as one which deserves a sequel: case in point today, 2015 May the 8th: "The next movie that deserves a sequel is "John Carter" which was about this earthling who was able to go to Mars and became a hero. However, it was one of the biggest flops in the Hollywood industry as an estimated amount of $250 million went into the production but the movie only garnered $280 million when it was... 1.5 million viewers for John Carter in France yerterday!

The host of a radio show about medias talked this morning about a "surprise" regarding the French channel W9: John Carter gathered 1.5 million viewers (a 6% share) yesterday, while Pirates of the Carribean 3 had 1.2 million viewers on TMC. John Carter only has 400 000 less viewers than a channel that is considered a big one, France 3! An excellent score thus, for one of the little tv channels. We can only dream about what could have been the score on a more important one, but it's still a... [Lire la suite]

John Carter on French channel W9 tonight!

Here is today the first French nationwide airing on a non-paying TV channel, named W9, of John Carter, tonight on Monday, 2015 the 13th at 8h50pm! Let's hope for good ratings, even if unfortunately it's on one of the minor channels. The other movies aired tonight are Elektra on the D8 channel (one of the worst superhero movies ever!) and Pirates of the Carribean 3 on TMC. So good luck to John Carter this evening! We'll see if that airing will provoke new searches about the eventual sequels on... [Lire la suite]

A John Carter roleplaying game for Christmas? (+a Tarzan & Jane animated show)

Jim Sullos, president of ERB inc, announced at Wondercon in Anaheim that a British company will release a John Carter roleplaying game for Christmas of 2015! No precision yet about the said company, but I only see Cubicle 7 which is currently releasing games about licensed properties, like Doctor Who and The One Ring (based on The Lord of the Rings). Mongoose Publishing is also an English company, but they don't seem to buy licences as of late (the last to date being  Judge Dredd but which at the time... [Lire la suite]

A John Carter toy? Well, almost...

In December was aired the short-length "Toy Story That Time Forgot". Not only is the title an homage to Edgar Rice Burroughs and his "People that Time Forgot" (which was adapted as a movie), the short features this character: Goliathon, whose design is furiously familiar:                                                         So, even if Andrew... Tarzan 2016 : When History meets a story

Among the most astounding elements of the future David Yates movie is that the plot is based on anything but fantasy. The characters played by Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson really existed!  In 1885, the king of Belgium Léopold II reigns over Congo with an iron hand. While he appears as an enlightened leader eager to bring civilization to Africans, in fact he makes them slaves, thanks to adventurers and unscrupulous henchmen, among themselves Captain Léon Rom (Waltz). The author Joseph Conrad (who spent 3 years in Congo... [Lire la suite]

March the 7th: 3 years that John Carter was released in France!

Three years ago, I was about to go seeing John Carter on the first showing, first day of the release in Paris, France. Impossible to anticipate that I would flatly hate the movie on first viewing, and then adoring it later on unconditionaly, and participating as much as I could to the campaign for a sequel, without any success unfortunately. We were just simply not enough to state our interest. What is left three years later? On the French part of my blog there's not a week without the John Carter 2 articles... [Lire la suite]

Apparently only Disney could do a sequel to John Carter...

So this seems to be the definite word on whether or not we could see sequels to John Carter made by another studio. Since the answer is no, as I suspected it would be, what’s next? The answer came to me in an unexpected way a few days ago, when I woke up at 3 in the morning. The answer was: “I don’t need more”.  I fell in love with 11 perfectly chiseled books in the Barsoom universe, by master Edgar Rice Burroughs. More than 25 years later this love has never ceased, I read and re-read the books ad finitum with always the same... [Lire la suite]

October the 20th: the John Carter rights revert back to ERB inc

Here we are, the annoucement has come, ERB inc got back six months before the official ending all the rights of John Carter, Disney let them go. Of course the annoucement isn't entirely unexpected. John Carter lost a lot of money, even if not as much as what was announced two years ago, but it seems that the rediscovery of the movie by many fans since its release was not enough to convince the Mouse to authorize a sequel. What does that mean now? ERB inc will now seek another partner to pursue the adventure, under... [Lire la suite]

John Carter: new opportunities on the horizon?

A message from our “campaign chief” Jan Austin on the “Take me Back to Barsoom” Facebook page, which seems to point to the end of the hope for a sequel, but that other venues could materialize on the horizon:   “Yes, starting Monday, there will be new directions and new strategies beginning for John Carter, ERB, Inc, and the Back To Barsoom Group! Sohrab Osati and I met with Jim Sullos (the head of ERB Inc) a couple of weeks ago and will be meeting with him in the next week or so to come up with ideas of where our Back To... [Lire la suite]
