Star Trek the motion picture: the day I fell in love with Star Trek

Funny how you always remember the day you fell in love, when you could have forgotten everything about next week. Star Trek the motion picture was released 35 years ago, December the 6th of 1979.  But let’s move to 1986. I already knew Star Trek for a while, I had seen some episodes of the tv show on the French tv channel TF1, sometimes as a filler when there wasn’t something else to air (the episode I kept seeing againa nd again was “The Immunity Syndrome”). I liked it, but no more or less at this time than Battlestar Galactica... [Lire la suite]

Sister Love and Marianne made with Heromachine 2.5!

There's a software on the web named Heromachine which allows to created superheroes illustrations. Here is the link if you're interested: http://www.heromachine.com/heromachine-2-5-character-portrait-creator/ There's a version 3 which I'll test later. In the meantime, here are Sister Love and Marianne as I could recreate them with the software. As you will see I love simple but (to me) efficient costumes:

Apparently only Disney could do a sequel to John Carter...

So this seems to be the definite word on whether or not we could see sequels to John Carter made by another studio. Since the answer is no, as I suspected it would be, what’s next? The answer came to me in an unexpected way a few days ago, when I woke up at 3 in the morning. The answer was: “I don’t need more”.  I fell in love with 11 perfectly chiseled books in the Barsoom universe, by master Edgar Rice Burroughs. More than 25 years later this love has never ceased, I read and re-read the books ad finitum with always the same... [Lire la suite]

Last annoucements from Marvel: help, the market is saturated?

Sometimes, it's better to be blind than to read some comments... After Marvel's annoucement of its planning though 2019, many voices begin to make themselves heard online, claiming that the market as far as superhero movies go is already saturated! I mean, seriously? One, we're talking, as far as Marvel goes, about two or three movies a year, so, big deal. Two, yes, the competition will try to do the same, first of all Warner Bros/DC Comics. But DC Comics's problem is that this older company can mostly count on just to... [Lire la suite]

October the 20th: the John Carter rights revert back to ERB inc

Here we are, the annoucement has come, ERB inc got back six months before the official ending all the rights of John Carter, Disney let them go. Of course the annoucement isn't entirely unexpected. John Carter lost a lot of money, even if not as much as what was announced two years ago, but it seems that the rediscovery of the movie by many fans since its release was not enough to convince the Mouse to authorize a sequel. What does that mean now? ERB inc will now seek another partner to pursue the adventure, under... [Lire la suite]

John Carter: new opportunities on the horizon?

A message from our “campaign chief” Jan Austin on the “Take me Back to Barsoom” Facebook page, which seems to point to the end of the hope for a sequel, but that other venues could materialize on the horizon:   “Yes, starting Monday, there will be new directions and new strategies beginning for John Carter, ERB, Inc, and the Back To Barsoom Group! Sohrab Osati and I met with Jim Sullos (the head of ERB Inc) a couple of weeks ago and will be meeting with him in the next week or so to come up with ideas of where our Back To... [Lire la suite]

Feng Shui 2 rpg on Kickstarter!

The Feng Shui roleplaying game was created in 1997 by Robin D. Laws, and had a very specific goal: recreate in a roleplaying game the mood of Hong Kong's action movies, through no less than for time periods: the China of old, in the year 69, the one of 1850, contemporary Hong Kong, and China in the 2056 future! To get from one time period to the other, portals which lead in a parallel dimension, the Netherworld, which links the eras. The Netherworld is the lair of the Four Monarchs, four very powerful...
