A John Carter roleplaying game for Christmas? (+a Tarzan & Jane animated show)
Jim Sullos, president of ERB inc, announced at Wondercon in Anaheim that a British company will release a John Carter roleplaying game for Christmas of 2015! No precision yet about the said company, but I only see Cubicle 7 which is currently releasing games about licensed properties, like Doctor Who and The One Ring (based on The Lord of the Rings). Mongoose Publishing is also an English company, but they don't seem to buy licences as of late (the last to date being Judge Dredd but which at the time cost them nothing since they were at the time parent companies with 2000AD, publisher of Judge Dredd). There's still the possibility of an entirely new company, so to be continued!
Excellent news, I was praying for an official John Carter game since forever! Well, since 1988 at least, when I discovered the novels.
For the record, there were over the years precisely 4 John Carter gaming products, three officials and one unofficial:
- Warriors of Mars, a 56 pages booklet, was released in 1974 by TSR, publisher of Dungeons and Dragons. These are wargame rules in the Barsoom world, with like 3 lines evoking a possible use in Dungeons and Dragons. Not enough to create a real roleplaying campaign in Barsoom, and Gary Gygax also forgot a little detail: buying the license! ERB inc ordered TSR to cease publication at once...

- The Barsoomian Battle Manual at Heritage Games in 1978: another wargame, this time official, on Barsoom. Heritage Models also made lead figures.

- The John Carter Warlord of Mars Adventure Gaming Book in 1978: companion to the previous book, with fights one-on-one this time, so close to a roleplaying game! Also contains a painting guide for the figures.

- John Carter of Mars in 1979 by SPI: a boardgame in the John Carter universe.

And... that's all. Since 1979... No wonder that the annoucement of a roleplaying game to come is a huge event for me, and I hope for many others!
Jim Sullos also annouced an animated "Tarzan & Jane" show in the works, nothing more for now.
