Conan by Monolith - Kickstarter: a great boardgame for Conan fans!

One of the advantages of the Kickstarter development is economy of scale. For many months now has been announced a boardgame with the famous Conan, said to be The Barbarian, as a hero. The content is already huge, for 135 dollars. If I counted correctly, and we're only at the beginning of the Kickstarter campaign, it's no less than 137 figures that will be included in the "deluxe" version of the game (the standard version will cost 90 dollars, and will include the basic game and many stretch goals unblocked by campaign funders, even if some bonus will remain "deluxe" exclusives). If you want to wait or can't invest now (the Kickstarter ends at the beginning of February), the standard game will be released in gaming shops.

The game is not only financed (in 5:37 minutes!), it's finished at 80% according to the authors, and it can easily be checked, since videos posted on the boardgame site Trictrac.net and the Kickstarter page, present the rules and a complete gaming session. The rules seem both simple and strategic. From 1 to 4 players are opposed to another player, the Overlord, who controls the monsters that oppose the players. Those are in charge on a character (which gives a nice little roleplaying feel), each one having his own capacities, equipments and skills. Their mission must be accomplished in a finite number of turns, and the Overlord on his side also has specific goals to reach depending on the scenario. For months we see on Facebook drawings and sculpts of the figures (32mm scale). Here is a transparent process which gives confidence for the end result. One of the main references of the team is the great game Heroquest.

The game also has an exemplary fidelity to the works of Robert E. Howard, since the authors made sure they had the seal of approval of THE writer's specialist in the world, Patrice Louinet. He made available the last anthologies in French and in English of the texts written by Howard, for the first time cleaned up of all added content and rewriting (some would say "butchery") made in the 60ies by Lyon Sprague de Camp and Lin Carter, most notably. The co-writer of the game being French also, the game will be published in both languages.

In short, an event not to be missed for boardgame fans, figures fans and fans of the Barbarian himself. Release planned in October of 2015.
