The State of Sister Love for 2013!

The December month will eventually prove itself uneventful for Sister Love. No sale, no new commentary, and my attempts to have these books better known have given no result whatsoever so far.  It’s been about six months now since the books are on sale in both French and English versions. Amazon recently changed its policy and doesn’t wait anymore that the royalties get to 10 euros to pay them. So I received two supplemental amounts of 2.90€, which brings the total income generated by Sister Love to 14.31€ precisely (some 21$)! ... [Lire la suite]

Post on ERB inc Facebook page: an "amazing development" in 2014!

I just learned on this occasion that ERB inc, the company that handles the rights of Edgar Rice Burroughs' works has an official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/?sk=welcome#!/erburroughs?fref=ts). Here is what they posted on December the 11th of 2013:   "We just got word of an amazing development that will be announced at the beginning of the year.....Stay posted for more!"   John Carter fans of course hope that this will be the annoucement on the future of... The online petition for John Carter 2 has reached 11,000 signatures!

The online petition for John Carter 2 recently reached the 11,000 signatures mark (11.026 exactly). In fact it had already reached it if you count the signatures obtained during events and conventions (which brings the total to this day to 12,985 signatures). The objective is 15,000, and the petition will be sent to the Disney executives. Here is the link: http://www.change.org/petitions/alan-horn-chairman-walt-disney-pixar-studios-bring-back-john-carter-take-us-back-to-barsoom Is there still hope to see a sequel... [Lire la suite]

A Fighting Man of Mars

I finished reading again in the "Cycle de Mars #2" the French translation of A Fighting Man of Mars, quite simply my favorite of the cycle. It's not only for the adventures in themselves (a lot of back-and-forth, abductions and escapes!), but more for the characters. Burroughs seldom wrote about the common people, but more about extraordinary characters, strong and brave to the point of temerity, kings and queens among men, even if they not always bear the titles. The fighting man of Mars is Tan Hadron, a martian warrior among... [Lire la suite]

"Le Cycle de Mars" #2: wrong introduction + The Master Mind of Mars!

I began to read the second omnibus of Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Cycle de Mars", or more accurately reading it again since the French translation is identical to the Lefrancq edition one from 1995, made by Martine Blond. First of all the introduction give erroneous informations about the last volume of the adventures of John Carter, "John Carter of Mars". The short story "Skeleton Men of Jupiter" is really considered canonical, it's just unfinished. And "John Carter and the Giant of Mars" was not... [Lire la suite]

A hundred years ago: Warlord of Mars!

A hundred years ago in All-Story Magazine, the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel, Warlord of Mars, began its 4-parts publication. The faithful readers had only to wait six months to discover what had happened to Dejah Thoris, Thuvia and Phaidor in the Temple of the Sun, where they were locked at the end of Gods of Mars. Thus ended the trilogy which began with A Princess of Mars (1912). Edgar Rice Burroughs will leave on the wayside his hero John Carter to get interested in his descendants: his son Carthoris will be... [Lire la suite]

John Carter has a new fan: Anne Rice!!

Here is what the famous novelist wrote on her Facebook page this day:   "Just watched "John Carter," (2012) based on the John Carter of Mars stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs and starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, and other terrific actors including James Purefoy and Ciarán Hinds. Loved it. Extraordinary film; compelling, coherent, entertaining and satisfying. Actually sort of delightful. Just one of the most fun fantasy films I've seen of late. Why this didn't do well at the box office, I can't fathom. I found it so much... [Lire la suite]

Sister Love with the City of Heroes Character Creator

Apparently there is still a way to access the Character Creator of City of Heroes, but unfortunately it seems I don’t have the required updates… On the other hand there’s on the web a… Korean version of the Character Creator, which features the very first costume elements of the game! Since Sister Love was mainly built with basic elements, I could recreate her… It wasn’t easy, all texts were in Korean, and I couldn’t see my cursor. You certainly had to be motivated! But here she is in all her glory, saved for posterity! Well, almost,... [Lire la suite]
