First Superhero Purchase!

My first purchase regarding to superheroes (well, rather the one I made my parents buy anyway) was mythical in more than one way: Special Strange 33 saw indeed the conclusion of the Dark Phoenix saga and the death of Phoenix herself! I had read the previous episodes at a friend’s home, I thus knew what was happening, but I didn’t think when I bought it to which point this episode would be anchored in the “comics” culture several years afterwards. The two episodes were particularly poignant. The heroes, for once, were losing all their fights, and the episode ended with the death of one of them.

It was in August 1983. Thirty years later these episodes are always staples in the Comics universes. The Claremont/Byrne period keeps on feeding almost every X-Men movie. It was a creative peak which one can assert was never equaled ever since. Greatest comics of all times? Maybe!
